Orthokeratology – Eyedream

We have a special Orthokeratology clinic running where we fit specifically designed gas permeable lenses that you wear overnight.  These lenses then gently reshape the front surface of the eye, called your cornea while you are sleeping so that the following day once you remove your lenses when you wake up, you are able to see clearly.  Orthokeratology lenses are made out of one of the most highest oxygen permeable materials for maximum comfort and safety during overnight wear.  Research and experience show that the whole process is 100% reversible so if you decide to stop wearing EyeDream for whatever reason, the eye will return to its original shape and you will see clearly with your glasses again.  These lenses are prescribed to correct mild-moderate myopia and to slow down the progression of myopia in children.

Orthokeratology is ideal for low to moderate short-sighted people who:

–          Want clear, natural vision all day long

–          Enjoy sports and outdoor activities

–          Find soft contact lenses uncomfortable

–          Have considered laser surgery but are worried about the risks

As children grow and get older, there is a tendency for their myopia to increase and get worse.  There is currently no cure for short-sightedness however the aim of Myopic Control is to slow down the progression of Myopia.  Besides the obvious health benefits, Orthokeratology can be financially rewarding for parents as spectacles need to be changed less, less worry about children losing spectacles or contact lenses and children can participate in all activities and sports without having to worry about their vision!

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT), is an advanced scan capturing both a fundus photograph and a detailed cross-sectional scan of the back of the eye.  An OCT uses light waves rather than sound waves to get a scan of all the different layers of the eye.  The scan is non-invasive, painless and quick.  As each of the retina’s individual layers can be seen, your Optometrist is able to look at the measurements and help detect and diagnose harmful conditions and diseases at an early stage.  Any subtle changes can be monitored regularly and if any condition is seen that requires immediate treatment, this can also be referred straight away – prevention is better than cure.  This gives you an invaluable on going visual record of the health and condition of your eyes.  Common conditions that can be seen with the OCT scan include: Age-related Macula Degeneration, Diabetes and Glaucoma.

Dry Eyes

Determine the quality of tears using special dyes in the eyes to determine the surface condition of the eye.  We can look at staining patterns on your cornea and measure how long it takes before your tears evaporate.
