Optical Coherence Tomography (3D OCT scan)
The latest piece of advanced technology we have secured at our opticians is the Optical Coherence Tomography scanner. The 3D OTC scan allows us to look and digitally measure the surface and the layers of the retina and blood vessels within the eye. The screening is able to diagnose any potential conditions that may be affecting your sight, as well as being available to take any baseline measurements, should you notice any deterioration in your sight. Changes in your personal health and lifestyle partake a major role in the state of your eyes and vision. With readily available digital records, photos and measurements to hand, it is a major advantage to; diagnosing any issues or changes to your eye; receiving treatment earlier; and possibly saving your eyesight.
Why is the scan important?
It is also very urgent that certain eye conditions, which are caused by diabetes, glaucoma, blood pressure, age related macula degeneration and many others, are identified early so that action is taken instantly, as once the damage is done, the effects are usually permanent. We advise that a screening is taken place on a regular basis, as having up to date digital records and measurements year on year allow us to recognise and reduce the risks of any (further) damage. Even factors such as smoking and alcohol are known to contribute in harming the eyes in many ways.
At our practice, we believe that this major investment was vital in order to safeguard our customers and to ensure we are able to offer the very best in eye care for all the family. Already we’ve been able to diagnose various different eye conditions, which would have only been detected via a referral from the GP to a hospital, and only if the hospital chooses to undertake the test. We cannot stress enough that this test is extremely unique innovation amongst small eye care practices, and is only performed in hospitals in the rarest of cases. So why not take advantage of this at our practice?
Your eyes are the gateway to your world, so we can’t emphasise enough how important it is for you to take care of them by having regular check-ups at our opticians.
